The township of Everton sold for £115

Amongst the instances which have lately been recorded of the wonderful rise in the value of landed estates, perhaps there is none which can equal the following: – In the year 1716, the whole township of Everton, including the estate now known by the name of St. Domingo, and consisting of 115 acres of the large or Cheshire measure, was sold by Lord and Lady Ashburnham for the sum of £115 It is, perhaps, no exaggeration to say, that the same land, exclusive of all the buildings since erected upon it, might now be sold for £115,000.
