John Houlding – the workingmen’s candidate

Tuesday, January 20 – 1880
We understand that it is the intention of a section of the Constitutional Association to bring out Mr. John Houlding, brewer, as a workingmen’s candidate for Everton Ward. Mr. Houlding has been a guardian for the West Derby Union for a period of six years, and connected with the Everton branch of the Conservative Association for many years. As the “upper ten” of the party have declined to nominate Mr. Houlding because he is a brewer, we understand the working men have decided to run him in conjunction with or in opposition to Mr. Siddeley.
