We hear and see ….

Saturday, August 11 – 1888
That Cambuslang, the Glasgow Cup holders, played finely in opening the ground of the Queen of the South Wanderers at Dumfries; but that the Vale of Leven only just beat Rutherglen, and that the Hibernians succumbed to the new combination, the Celtic, at Glasgow; the Rangers were overcome by Shettleston, and the Dumbarton were defeated by Greenock Morton – a fair show of surprises for an opening day.
