September 19, 1891

Middlesbrough – Canadians 2-1 (0-1).
Attendance: 3,000.
Middlesbrough (2-3-5): Hugh Mackay, Bob Crone, McManus, George Waller, Bell, Phil Bach, Cronshaw, Mullens, William Campbell, Watson, David Black.
Canadians (2-3-5): Dennis Shea, E.J. Gregory, Henry Waring, Dr John Clark Warbrick, James J. Dalton, Franz H. Thibodo, W.S.S. Manison, Walter Wells Bowman, Alex Jeffrey, Ernie C. Senkler, Neil Munro.
The goals: 0-1 Jeffrey, 1-1 Black, 2-1 Watson.
** Other sources have that Franz H. Thibodo played instead of Whittaker. I have chosen to go with the line up given in “York Herald” for September 21, 1891.
** There is also different goalscorer  given for the Canadians. Senkler in some sources and even Bowman. Again I have chosen to go with the match report in the York Herald.
