Liverpool’s ill-luck

November 5, 1894
When is the spell of ill-luck that Liverpool seem to be deeply embedded in going to take a turn? The disappointing show of last year’s Second Division champions is the biggest curiosity of the season. Only one success out of a round dozen engagements is a lamentable return. This time last year they had obtained 32 goals to 7; their present record is 13 to 31. We cannot believe that the difference is represented by the different class of matches. It matters little whether the team are at home or away – the result is invariably the same. Burnley after their experience with Nottingham Forest a week ago, surely did not bargain for such an easy job as they found at Anfield Road.
