Exciting prospects for Liverpool F.C.

May 8, 1897
Liverpool have got Harry Storer and Willie Donnelly for goal, and also Charles Jowett, the amateur, will turn out again for them. Backs: Archie Goldie, Tom Wilkie, Billy Dunlop and, Matt McQueen. Half-backs: John McCartney, Joe McQue, Patrick Gray (Partick Thistle), Thomas Cleghorn, and John Holmes. Forwards: Robert Marshall, William Walker (right-wing of Leith Athletic), Patrick Finnerhan (Manchester City), Daniel Cunliffe (Oldham County, centre forward), Frank Becton, Fred Geary, and  Andy McCowie.

Robert Neill and Harry Bradshaw are not among the above list: the former I am told will not return, but the latter will be on the list at any moment.

It will be observed that Liverpool have a new right wing, and this is specially welcome, for it was here where they were weak against the Villa for the English Cup after the departure of Jimmy Ross and Malcolm McVean to Burnley.

Whether Daniel Cunliffe will be good enough to take George Allan’s position remains to be seen.
