No mid-week League for Liverpool

June 17, 1897
A meeting of the English League Clubs of Lancashire was to have been at Blackburn last night to consider the formation of a Lancashire League for mid-week matches, but it was not held on account of Burnley, the promoters, having abandoned the idea. This is brought about by the majority of the clubs – including, it is stated, Liverpool, Everton, and Preston North End – having decided not to join.
