Alderman John Houlding was yesterday chosen by the Selection Committee of the Conservative Party in the Liverpool City Council for election to the office of Lord Mayor.
Alderman Houlding is a brewer, and he is also the owner of several public houses. In the sporting world Alderman Houlding is a bit of celebrity. He was president and financier of the Everton Football Club before it transferred its headquarters to Goodison Park, and more recently he started and financed the present prosperous Liverpool Football Club, of which he is the president, and is known in some parts of the country as “Football Houlding.”
