Another success for the Liverpool F.C. Theatrical Gala

Friday, February 25 – 1898
A meeting of the general council of the Liverpool Theatrical Football Gala was held yesterday at the Alexandra Hotel, Dale-street, under the presidency of Mr. William Houlding. It was announced that the winning number of the £5 note was 23,844. The books issued were valued at £115 14s, the amount of cash actually received as the result of the sale of the tickets being £97 13s 3d. The donor of the £5 note, Mr. T. J. Preston, of the County Hotel, Islington, sold books to the value of £43 10s. From the reports presented by the various committees it appeared that one or two respects the receipts were somewhat smaller than those of last year, while it is gratifying to know that in other departments the income shows a substantial advance.
