In common fairness to popular Tom Watson and his committee (by the way, Mr Benjamin Bailey was also very considerate and thoughtful, it should be mentioned that it was not the home directors’ fault that neither Hugh Morgan nor George Allan appeared against the League Champions. The former have been temporarily transferred to his old club – Paisley St Mirren – to help them to win their cup, and as Allan’ s transfer from Mr Wall had not arrived before the game, neither player could take the field. But Allan was sent on the line just to show that he was really in Liverpool, and during the progress of the match Mr Wall’s letter arrived dated the previous evening, but did not bear the Liverpool postmark.
