Two pairs of boots per man

Saturday, December 16 – 1899
Now that we are overtaken by the season of frost and snow again, it behoves club trainers to look well to the footwear of their players. When the weather is uncertain the travelling outfit should comprise two pairs of boots per man, one pair studded and barred for soft pitches and the other rubber-soled. In that manner teams travelling a-neld are prepared for any class of “going.” Many a good team has lost matches owing to nu-prepareaness in this direction. (Sunderland Daily Echo, 16-12-1899)
