Under the auspices of the Liverpool and District Elementary Schools Football Association, a match will be played this evening between teams chosen from Liverpool and Birkenhead schoolboys.
These contests are always of an enjoyable character, and the quality of play provided bu the embryo exponents of the Association code in similar contests has reached a standard that has surprised many old followers of the game.
The contest takes place on the ground of the Liverpool Club, Anfield-road. Kick off 6 15.
The Liverpool schoolboys will be represented by the following team:
Taylor (Anfield-road), goal; Mullins (Mount Carmel) and Duncan (Anfield-road), backs; Chapman (Granton-road), Townley (Aigburth-vale), and Gunthorpe (Anfield-road), half backs; Kennedy and London (Walton National), Glover (Arnot-street), and Aaron and Bewley (Anfield-road), forwards. Reserve, Byrne (Mount Carmel).
(Liverpool Mercury, 03-05-1900)
I think Taylor (Anfield-road) is Ted Taylor who later played in goal for Oldham Athletic, Huddersfield Town, Everton and Wrexham? We would be 13 years old in 1900. And Aaron (Anfield-road) is Arthur Frederick Aaron who later played for Stockport County? He would have been 14 years old in 1900.
Hi Eddie,
Thanks for the update. Too bad only their surnames was written. I tried to check Ancestry, but found out that there was 2 x Ted Taylor in the area (West Derby/kirkdale) on the 1900 census.
Kjell
Taylor played for Liverpool during WW1.
