“The sensation of the week is the transfer of Andy McCowie to Middlesbrough for a consideration, it is reported, of £75,” says the Woolwich correspondent of “Football Chat.”
“Assuming these figures to be correct, and as £120 was paid to Liverpool, the Arsenal has dropped £45 in cash over the deal. A fairly good authority, viz., Mr. Tom Watson, on two or three separate occasions has told Arsenal officials in my hearing that Liverpool would take Mac back at the price he cost. Was he offered to his old club?”
“In the opinion of 99 competent judges out of 100 McCowie, though given to selfishness, was the cleverest player in his position in the South. What is Middlesbrough’s gain is the Arsenal’s loss. Andy has my good wishes for his success at his Northern home.”
McCowie will be played at Middlesbrough on Saturday in the Alliance team against Shankhouse – inside right.
