Tough punishment for players

January 26, 1901
Although the match between Padiham and Liverpool last Saturday was played to a finish at Padiham, five Liverpool players left the field without the consent of the referee, and they have all been suspended by their Club as follows: – Rab Howell, one month; John T. Hunter, John “Sailor” Hunter, Charles Satterthwaite, and Thomas Soulsby, each a fortnight.

The Directors recognize that their action  many possibly lose them the championship of the Lancashire Combination, but they are determined that their players shall conform with the laws of the game.
