West Bromwich Albion v Liverpool

April 30, 1901
This postponed League match took place last night at the Hawthorns, before 5,000 spectators. Liverpool were fully represented, and the Albion played Wheldon and Garfield on the left wing. Play was extremely fast and exciting. Walker scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes. Albion pressed hard after this. Stevenson, Garfield, and Roberts just missing the goal. Liverpool retaliated, and excellent play was witnessed on both sides until the interval, when the score stood: Liverpool, 1 goal; Albion, 0.

Crossing over Albion forced a corner, which was cleared with difficulty, and the visitors made several strong attacks. Faulty play by Chadburn and Reader nearly let them through several times, Liverpool doing the bulk of the attacking. Raybould missed one lovely chance with only Reader to beat, and the Albion occasionally made a dangerous breakaway. Liverpool were by far the better team, and pressed till the finish.

Result: Liverpool, 1 goal; Albion, 0.
