The death of Willie Hendry

May 4, 1901
A hardy footballer died at Shrewsbury on Saturday morning, this being Willie Hendry, the old Forfarshire and Sheffield United half-back. In his day while playing in Scotland, at Deepdale for Preston North End, and at Bramall-lane, Hendry was a rare good footballer, string and resolute in his talking, and kicking with power and accuracy.

Three seasons ago he became attached to Shrewsbury, but during the past term he did not play regularly. In addition to being a good footballer, Hendry was a fair cricketer.
