Archie Goodall cleared for ill-treating a pony

September 12, 1902
Archie Goodall, captain of the Derby County F.C. was summoned at Derby yesterday for ill-treating his pony at Shardlow on August 31. The evidence for the prosecution rested upon the evidence of a tailor named William Allen, who said he saw Goodall standing up in the cart unmerciful thrashing the pony. He reported the affair to the society, who took up the case. Defendant strongly denied being cruel, and after hearing two witnesses for the defence, the bench dismissed the case.
