Tuesday, April 19 – 1904
Interesting to both spectators and football club managers alike is a sequel to the fiasco that took place on the Tottenham Hotspur ground in the Cup-tie between the ‘Spurs and Aston Villa, which was raised at the Edmonton County Court, on Tuesday, by a coffee-house keeper named George Mitchell.
The crowd broke on to the field of play, and it was impossible to allow the game as a Cup-tie. Therefore Mitchell did not see that which he went to see, and, alleging that the Tottenham officials did not take sufficient precautions, he sued for the recovery of 10s., his expenses.
For the defence it was urged that the number of persons admitted was not excessive. Judge Tindal-Atkinson decided to see the ground before delivering judgment.
