Stray mems from Merseyside (August 18, 1906)

August 18, 1906
* During the past week or so rain has fallen copiously in these parts, and this is a source of pleasure to the Liverpool club, for their re-laid playing area has just been crying out for something more out of the “watering can.”
* Liverpool’s only public trial game will take place at the Tower grounds on Saturday next.
* The members of the Press are to be entertained to luncheon by the directors of the Liverpool club on Monday, following which the party will pay a tour of inspection to Anfield’s reconstructed enclosure.
* The Liverpool reserves team have no hard and fast selected captain. This is a case, I fancy, usually adopted with Sunderland’s League team. George Fleming is to act as Reserve team trainer – a capital arrangement, I should say.
