Oldham Athletic are making great preparations for their Cup tie with Liverpool, at Boundary Park, on Saturday. About one hundred tons of earth a day are being deposited in the banking behind one of the goals, and it is estimated that by the day of the match accommodation will have been provided for 20,000 people.
Though Oldham were beaten by Liverpool Reserve in a Combination match on Saturday last, the Anfielders are not looking for an easy victory, as they recognise that there is not a vast difference between their first and second teams. They will indulge in quiet training at home, and will be accompanied to Oldham by a large crowd. The team will be chosen later in the week, but will not differ much from the side that played against Birmingham last Saturday, the only possible change being the re-inclusion of Goddard for McKenna at outside right.
The Liverpool captain, Alex Raisbeck, is laid up with a bad cold and a touch of lumbago. However, there are hopes that he will recover in time for Saturday’s Cup tie.
