A young and sturdily built Sam Speakman

January 27, 1909
Sam Speakman, who played right full back for Colne last Saturday, hails from Prescot, where he was associated with the Wire Works team. He is young and sturdily built, and given a continuance of his form against Stanley, he should prove of material assistance to the Colne defence.

Oldham are due to visit the Alkincoates enclosure next Saturday, and the home side should at least provide them with an interesting game. The team will be: – Mitchell; Speakman and Leah; Nield, Whitehead, and Ernie Plews; McGraw, Lewis, George Lamberton, Wheeler, and Tracey.

It will be seen that Timmins, who appears to be out of condition, has been dropped.
