The death of Jack Barton

April 22, 1910
Jack Barton, left half-back for Blackburn Rovers in the early nineties, died yesterday afternoon, aged 44. Barton, who was capped against Ireland in 1890, played in the final ties of that and the succeeding years, when the Rovers beat Sheffield Wednesday and Notts County.

His football career was terminated by an accident to his knee during a League match at Stoke, but he never missed witnessing the final since the Rovers’ last success.

For many years he had been proprietor of the Cambridge Hotel, Blackburn.
