Help for Jock Smith’s widow

February 18, 1911
A meeting will be held at the Dun Cow Inn (Alec Gardner’s), Back Eldon Street, this evening, at 7:30, to consider ways and means by which the widow and family of five of the late Jock Smith may be relieved from present financial embarrassment. Mr. J. Neylon will preside, and all old friends of the deceased player are invited to attend.
Smith will be remembered by the older school of football enthusiasts. He commenced his career in the North as a member of Newcastle East End, after which he played successively for Sunderland, Liverpool, and Sheffield Wednesday, subsequently returning to Newcastle to assist in laying the foundation of the world-wide reputation which Newcastle United now enjoys.
