The talent at the disposal of the Newcastle United has been the envy of their opponents for many seasons, and it is difficult to tempt them to part with a player. The Liverpool Club, however, succeeded in prevailing on them to transfer Metcalf to Anfield, and he gets his first chance with the League team to-day.
Metcalf is a clever inside-left, who would have made his mark in League circles before now but for the fact that he was crowded out by so many stars at Newcastle. Good judgesaver that he will improve the Liverpool forward line considerably. He has a fine record as a goal-scorer, having obtained thirty seven for Newcastle last season, and with Liverpool Reserves this year he has performed very creditably in this direction.
