Liverpool’s big charity match

April 21, 1913
Football has ever been to the forefront in the cause of charity, and the Liverpool Theatrical Gala promoters have disbursed during their 22 years’ existence a sum of £16,211. Last year their efforts realised £1,065, but they are hoping to exceed this total on Wednesday next, when the gate receipts of a football match to be played on the Liverpool club’s ground at Anfield will help to swell the sum of £940 already lodged in the bank to the credit of the fund.

A team composed of Everton and Liverpool players will oppose an international side, which will include Scattergood, Crompton, Pennington, Brittleton, McCall, Simpson, Fleming, Quinn, and Wall. This will be the first appearance of the Celtic centre, Quinn, in Liverpool, and this in itself is bound to prove an attraction.
