John Bovill transferred to Linfield

May 14, 1914
John Bovill, the ex-Chesterfield and Scottish player, has, like Harris, gone to Ireland. He is to help Linfield, and Ireland will be all the richer in good fun, for this comedian of a player will delight the Irish folk even more than he did they Liverpool crowd, because he will find a ready response from his partner Marshall McEwan, formerly with Bolton and Everton.

McEwan knows a few tricks and is one of the daintiest footballers in the country. With Bovill by his side, I would not mind risking a voyage to Ireland to see the pair diddling opponents. Bovill has made a few appearances in Liverpool’s first team, but he was not too good a shot, and was a provider of possible goals rather than a goal-getter.
