When Neil McBain equalised from a penalty kick in the Renfrewshire Junior Cup final between Campbelltown Academical and Neilston Victoria, at Paisley, he did a good turn for the Association, the clubs and himself
The replay at Ayr was responsible for a “gate” exceeding £30, and though McBain did not secure a winners’ badge, his play attracted the attention of Ayr United, whose directors signed the player immediately the game concluded.
McBain, who played fully two season with the Campbelltown team has yet to celebrate his nineteenth birthday. He stands 5ft. 7½in. high, and weighs over 10½st.
Last season he played a trial game for Hamilton Academical, and Heart of Midlothian also offered to give him a trial. McBain. However, preferred to be nearer his native Campbelltown. Much is expected of the lad, once the rough corners are knocked off.
