A big drop in the gates

The position in football circles may be stated as follows: “The amateur game is at a standstill, but professional football is being played before ‘gates’ which may be estimated to have dropped 50 per cent from normal.”
The decision of the Football Association to go on left the big League clubs with no alternative but to obey.
