The war has played havoc with football clubs in Lancashire, and the latest to go under is the Turton Club, the disbandment being officially intimated to-day. Turton were pioneers of the Association game in Lancashire and sent out men like John James Bentley, of Manchester United, and a past president of the League; Sagar and Leeming, former Bury players and Haworth, now associated with Middlesbrough. Turton and Notts Forest both claim priority in introducing the three half-back system.
