Port Vale next up for Liverpool

Friday, September 8 – 1916
It is an age since Liverpool went to Port Vale in their Second Division wanderings, and Port Vale will give their side a good game tomorrow at the Old Recreation Ground. The sprinkling of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ players in the home side guarantees that Liverpool will have a tousy set of players to face, for the Midland town does produce the right sort of stuff to combat Liverpool’s dash. However, with Liverpool settling down to their game, they may just about pip the Port Vale side.

Liverpool. – Ted Taylor; Ephraim Longworth, Tommy Lucas; John Bamber, Arthur Goddard, Donald Mackinlay; Ernest Pinkney, Arthur Metcalf, Fred Pagnam, James Henderson, Tommy Cunliffe.

Port Vale. – Powell, Collins, Cameron, Shelton, Bennett, Bentley, Spooner, Brough, R. Shelton, Needham, Colcough.
