Accrington Stanley footballer killed in action


Friday, May 3 – 1918
Sec.-Lieut. F. Wells (30), Lancs. Fusiliers, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.C.H. Wells, 11, Barnfield-terrace, Accrington, has been killed in action.

Prior to enlistment he was a member of Accrington C.C., being a capable batsman. He was also a well-known footballer, having played with Accrington Stanley, Rochdale, and Great Harwood.
