The remarkable come-back of William Scott

December 6, 1918
Liverpool, at home, have Oldham Athletic, and I hope the latter will play Dave Wilson in the half-backs – his best berth, albeit he has shown in international and other games that he can become a sixth forward. Anfield’s tussle tomorrow will be interesting, of only because it will provide us with a further view of William Scott in goal, and Reg Phillips at outside left.

I have already spoken of Phillips, but of William Scott one can only say that he is realising his old-time form, and that his “come back” is one of the most remarkable things football’s history has shown.

Scott’s fielding of a ball is worthy emulation, and his manner of one-hand thumping out is also a pointer to those who are learning goalkeeping.
