Strong efforts are being made by the promoters of the Leeds United Football Club to obtain admission to the English League, and with this end in view appeals are being made to followers of Association football in the city to become shareholders in the organisation.
This propaganda work was successfully launched yesterday, and at a meeting held at the Griffin Hotel last night, Mr. M. Barker in the chair, it was reported that over £400 had been realised to date.
The object of the promoters is to secure the largest number of shareholders possible, no matter how small their individual holdings may be, and within the next few days a canvas will be made of each district in the city. The support thus far is distinctly encouraging, for the committee have met with no refusals.
Meanwhile, it is interesting to note that the following players have been signed on for next season: –
Goal, Billy Downs (Ashington) and Syd Jeffries (Leeds United); backs, Alf Smelt (Rotherham), Bert Duffield and Arthur Tillotson (Castelford Town); half-backs, George Stuart (Dundee), Ernie Hart (Leeds United), and Bob Musgrove (Durham City); forwards, George Mason and Matt Ellson (Leeds United), Bob Thompson (Newcastle United) centre, Jerry Best (Newcastle United), left wing.
