Costume carnival at Anfield

Monday, February 14 – 1921
A costume carnival was held on Monday at the Liverpool Football Club’s Ground, Anfield, the proceeds to be distributed between the unemployed ex-Service men, also the Liverpool hospitals, the Liverpool Personal Service Committee, and the Variety Artistes’ Benevolent Fund.

A costume procession was formed through the principal streets to the ground, when a ladies football match between Dick Kerr’s Lady Internationals v. Harry Weldon’s Lady Internationals was played for the Harry Weldon Cup. Miss Ella Retford kicked off.

In the evening the teams and officials were the guests at the Olympia of the “Dick Whittington” Co., and of Mr. R.H. Gillespie, managing director of Moss’ Empires, and Harry Weldon presented the cup to the winning team.

The honorary organisers were Harry Weldon, Bruce Green (Chairman of the Committee of the V.A.B.F.), and Major Cecil Kent.
