Stoke players smash up their own ground

Friday, May 2 – 1924
A Hanley message states that several Stoke football club players drove in a taxi cab yesterday afternoon to the club ground, and, it is alleged, wrenched a door off its hinges, smashed electric lights and pictures, and caused a disturbance which lasted half an hour. The trouble, it is stated, was due to the fact that some of the players are not likely to be signed on again and others express dissatisfaction at the terms offered them.
