At Birkenhead yesterday, before 10,000 spectators, in dull weather. In the opening half the visitors had the advantage of a strong wind. Play ruled fast and even, and after two minutes Jackson fouled Kelly, and from the ensuing penalty kick Wilcox opened the score. Five minutes before the interval Kelly headed a second goal for New Brighton, the ball passing through the home goalkeeper’s legs. In the second half Tranmere were almost continually on the offensive, but precious little shooting was done. Wilcox scored a third goal for New Brighton, after Briggs had mis-fielded, and 20 minutes from the end Dean obtained Tranmere’s only point. Result: – New Brighton, 3 goals; Tranmere Rovers, 1 goal.
