Season preview 1927/28 – Barrow F.C. (The Athletic News)

Monday, August 1 – 1927
Barrow are optimistic in face of the difficulties which have continually beset them, and are hoping to thrive. There are no funds available for big transfer fees, and the club has again had to bear the handicap which must necessarily fall upon any club which has to await re-election, and consequently can do little in team building before June.

Newcomers include A. Cochrane, goalkeeper, from Ayr United, and P. Dubber, a custodian who was with Barrow Wireworks, F. Roebuck (Mansfield Town) and W.T. Elliott, a local, are full backs, while A. McGuire, Dundee; Patrick McCool, Barrow St. Mary’s; and J. Parton, Grantham, are new half-backs. The club is still searching for another centre half. The forwards include A. Agar, from Dundee; H. Walker, Edinburgh St. Bernard’s; A. Bishop, Southampton; W. Smith, Halifax Town; with David Brown, the old Newcastle United and Darlington centre, Jock Maconnachie, the former Edinburgh Hibernian, Everton, and Swindon back, will be trainer-coach. He had wide continental experience.
