Season preview 1927/28: Bradford City F.C. (The Athletic News)

August 1, 1927
It is evident Bradford City mean to make a bold effort to secure an early return to the Second Division. There has been a drastic revision of the playing forces; in fact, only six players remain of  those on the list when Mr. Colin Veitch took charge at the beginning of last season.

There promises to be a blend of youth and experiences. John Ewart, the international goalkeeper, comes back from the Airdrieonians to his old club, while for the half-back line there are three newcomers, the most experienced being Robert Bauld, of Dundee United, whilst useful recruits in J. Morris and J. Campbell come from Hull City.

The most notable acquisition for the forward line is Tom Cairns, the famous Glasgow Ranger and Scottish international, whose transfer to a Third Division club has caused considerable surprise. Another experienced inside forward will be Ernest Islip, formerly with Huddersfield Town and Birmingham. For the extreme positions there are Edmund Harvey and Aubrey Scriven, both from Birmingham.

The following have left Valley Parade for new quarters: – Jimmy McLaren (Leicester City); Sam Gallacher (Crystal Palace); Mike Gilhooley (Queens Park Rangers), Billy Hamilton (Southport), Stuart McMillan (Nottingham Forest), Arthur Ormston (Bristol Rovers), Bert Batten (Reading) and Michael Patterson (Doncaster Rovers).
