Severe depression in the coalfields, which last season seriously affected the club’s receipts unfortunately shows ho sign of improvement. Still, Durham are preserving with their plan of team building.

Last season Bob Cowan, Johnny Dent, and Alf Young left for Huddersfield, George Turnbull for Bradford, and Sammy Crooks for Derby County, and this summer Billy Oxley has signed for Wigan, Jack Parkin for Accrington Stanley, and Sid Elliott for Fulham. Players not re-signed are Lewis Botto, George Malcolm, Jack Burnham, Ralph Hedley, and Bob Woodhouse. Three re-signed men are Stephenson, Gurkin, and Hart.

New professionals are Lowson, centre-half, from Poole, the Welsh League team; Nicholson, a 20-year-old centre forward from Newcastle United Reserves, and Purdy, goalkeeper, who for three seasons was with Tottenham Hotspur, and last season with Southend United.
