Season preview 1927/28 – Motherwell F.C. (The Athletic News)

Monday, August 1 – 1927
Last season Motherwell made a very strong bid for League honours. They failed to stay the pace, but were worthy runners-up. The steel town club hope to go one better and finish at the top.

No departures are reported from Fir Park, and the playing staff, which numbers 25, include only two newcomers – both forwards. Thomas Tennant is a centre forward recruited from the ranks of Clydebank Juniors, and Tom Douglas is a smart inside left from the Ayrshire junior club Kilwinning Rangers.

A quiet confidence prevails in the camp. The team will be on much the same lines as last season. For the centre half position there are two first-class candidates – Alan Craig and Arnot Craig. William Tennant, who last year sustained a severe knee injury which kept him out of the game many weeks, has recovered and will probably lead the attack in their opening match. The team is expected to be something like this on August 13: – McClory, Johnman, Frame, McNeil, Alan Craig, Thackerray, McMurtrie, Hutchison, W. Tennant, Stevenson, and Ferrier.
