Season preview 1927/28 – Luton Town F.C. (The Athletic News)

Monday, August 8 – 1927
Having withdrawn from the Southern League Luton Town have reduced their playing numbers. It remains to be seen whether its efficiency will be maintained.

The departure of Jimmy Thompson, the centre forward, for Chelsea, was the principal bone of contention, for he went on a free transfer. The other departures are the three goalkeepers (Bill Harper, Harry Mingay, and Bill Kaine), C. Wolstenholme, and Robert Moir, backs; John Clark, Billy Agnew, Harry Keeling, and Bob Gillespie. Apparently Clark has returned to his old love of four years ago, Bo’ness; Keeling has been fixed up by Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Gillespie by Port Vale, but of the rest there is no news.

The club will be compensated for the departure of Thompson if their acquisition from Nottingham Forest, Galloway, finds his old Derby County form, and the forward line should not suffer by the changes, inasmuch as Reid, a young right winger from Airdrieonians, Sutton, an inside left from Dunfermline Athletic, and Davies, the Swindon left winger, have been secured.

The back division will be unaltered, while Abbott, who has been with Nelson five seasons, and Muir, who kept goal in every match for Bo’ness, champions of the second division of the Scottish League will be new goalkeepers.
