Optimism is the keynote at Rake-lane, for the management have got together a side likely to eclipse records of previous seasons. The defence, which was admittedly one of the soundest in its class last campaign, has been retained in its entirety. They are all experienced players, among whom are McDonald and Curr, late Everton, and Walter Wadsworth, formerly with Liverpool and Bristol City.
The position of goalkeeper will, however, need duplicating, as Mehaffy has returned to Ireland, and the amateur L.T.V. Flood, is the only custodian at present on the books. The club is well equipped at half back, as Morrison, Wadsworth, Smedley and Lewis, who on tour in Canada, and a local youth in Higgins have been re-signed, and little is like to be found wanting in this department.
The greatest changes will be in the forward line, which last season was lacking in blend. Much is expected from T. Reid, who has had a cartilage removed following knee trouble at South Shields last season, while Pither recently with Liverpool, has been signed to fill the outside left position held by Dickie, who has joined up with Bristol City. Then A.W. Oakes, who has seen service with Birmingham, and scored 47 goals last season for Rhyl, can play in any inside position, and with Cowper on the extreme right it is hoped that the necessary blend will be forthcoming.

Hi Ian,
I have been searching the archives I have access to, but not found much more. I will try to check with official Everton historians if they can help you with information?
