George Kay “ok” for Southampton

Monday, May 11 – 1931
Managerial gaps are filling up. How keen is the competition for this onerous and arduous responsibility is illustrated by the fact that there were 80 applications for the post at Southampton vacated by Mr Arthur Chadwick.

He is followed by Mr George Kay, the former West Ham full back and later manager of Luton Town.

Forty years of age, he played in First and Second Division football for 18 years, captained West Ham United for eight years, at the time when the “Hammers” won promotion and reached the final of the FA Cup.
