Bob Ireland transferred to St. Johnstone

July 27, 1931
Manager Tom Muirhead, of St. Johnstone, completed a deal with Liverpool yesterday for the transfer of Bob Ireland. The newcomer to Muirton is an old Ibrox colleague of Muirhead’s. He joined Rangers from Darvel in 1923, and although reckoned one of the best centre halves in Scotland, was condemned to hide his light in the reserves by he brilliance of Dave Meiklejohn. He attracted the attentions of Liverpool, and signed for them just a few days after the Anfield club had secured the signature of Archie Macpherson.
