Ex-Liverpool player signs for Bristol Rovers

Bristol Rovers yesterday made one of their most important captures of recent years when they secured the signature of James Smith, the holder of the goal-scoring record in league football.
In season 1927-28, Smith who is a centre forward, scored 66 goals in 38 matches for Ayr United when that club was competing in the Second Division of the Scottish League. This still stands as a record for all grades of league football.
Smith has played for Clydebank, Glasgow Rangers and Liverpool, besides Ayr United. During the past season he assisted Tunbridge Wells Rangers and scored over 90 goals.
He is 26 years of age, 5ft. 11in. in height, and weighs 11st. 10lb.
