The funeral of the late Mr. Tom Crompton, the Liverpool Football Club director, and ex-chairman of the club, took place this morning at Yew Tree Cemetery, the officiating clergyman being Father Macauley.
The floral tributes were many, and the list of mourners numbered hundreds, including: Everton F.C. officials (Messrs. William Cuff, George Green, Sharp, Gibbins), Tranmere Rovers (Mr. F.A. Jones), Preston North End (chairman, Mr. J. Taylor), Newcastle United (manager, Andy Cunningham), Irish Football Association (Mr. John Ferguson), Welsh Football Association (Mr. Ted Robbins), Mr. J. Ledsom (Licensed Victuallers’ Association), and Messrs. Bibby, T. Gregson, J. Cahill, Edward Askew Bainbridge, E. Waterson, &c.
The Liverpool F.C. directors were present en bloc, with Mr. Walter Cartwright, the chairman, at their head, and the pall-bearers at the graveside were: Tom Bradshaw, Elisha Scott, Arthur Riley, Gordon Hodgson, Jimmy McDougall and Berry Nieuwenhuys – all the Liverpool players and ground and office staffs were present.
