His many friends in Dundee and district will learn with regret of the bereavement of Gordon Hodgson, the Leeds United centre forward, and former Forfarshire C.C. professional, whose wife died at their home in Preston Parade, Beeston, Leeds, yesterday.
Mrs. Hodgson was 27 years old and a native of Liverpool. She leaves two children, a boy and a girl, with whom she spent two happy summers in Broughty Ferry while Hodgson was attached to the Forthill club.
Gordon Hodgson is a native of South Africa, and came over to England to play for Liverpool F.C., whom he served for over 10 years. He was subsequently with Aston Villa, before joining Leeds United. While at Liverpool he qualified to play for Lancashire C.C.
Recently his wife had been in poor health, and Hodgson has been playing under severe strain. Despite that, his leadership has had a lot to do with Leeds United’s remarkable rise to the top of the league after barely escaping relegation.
