In signing Harry Rawcliffe, Darwen’s 18-year-old inside right, Mr. George Kay, the Liverpool manager, got in ahead of several rivals, including Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool among them. The signing was a big surprise to the local folk, for it was confidently expected he would be snapped up by Blackburn, who have been watching him for some time.
Rawcliffe is 5ft. 8ins. in height and 11st. in weight – an ideal build for an inside forward, and is a two-footed player with a delightful turn of ball control. He has played in 28 out of 29 possible games for Darwen, and scored 11 goals, since his promise brought him into the first team. Darwen recently offered him professional terms, but he turned them down.
