No sooner had Archie Clark, the former Everton and Tranmere Rovers half-back, been appointed manager of Gillingham, the Southern League club, then he sat down to write me.
This is what he says: –
“I want to let you know I have taken over the manager-ship of Gillingham and I am looking forward to a good season.
“I have not yet completed my team for next season, but shall be making some important signings shortly.
“I would like to wish the Blues and Reds every success – may they give you plenty to keep your typewriter busy – and I hope we shall meet sometime during our travels. My best wishes to all Merseyside friends.”
