Twenty players called up for military service

All Liverpool’s first team players will be available for the game with Middlesbrough at Anfield to-night, in spite of the fact that 20 of the clubs’ professionals were called up yesterday for service with the Territorials.

The players concerned were: Arthur Riley and Dirk Kemp, goalkeepers; Bernard Ramsden, Tommy Cooper, Keith Peters, backs; Matt Busby, Tom Bush, Jimmy McInnes, Jack Easdale, half-backs; Phil Taylor, Willie Fagan, Jack Balmer, Harry Eastham, Pinnington, Bill Jones, George Paterson, Cyril Done, Eric Paterson, Bill Kinghorn, John Shafto, forwards.

As Stan Eastham and Ronnie Jones are already serving, the Liverpool officials were faced with a problem, for only nine of their professionals were unaffected. Later, however, they were informed that the players would be available for tonight’s game.
The players will report to the military authorities to-morrow morning.
